Nina Singh sworn in as Montgomery mayor; First Lady Tammy Murphy praises local initiatives

Nina Singh was elected mayor of the Montgomery Township Committee for 2025 and sworn in at the committee’s reorganization meeting, the committee announced during a roll-call vote that ended 4–1 in her favor. Senator Andrew Zwicker administered the oath.

Singh, who took the dais after the vote, framed the new term around community engagement, public health and sustainability. “As an Indian American woman, this role is a testament to Montgomery’s inclusivity and spirit of service,” Singh said, highlighting the mayor’s wellness campaign, a volunteer EMS honored as squad of the year in 2024 and the township’s Sustainable Jersey silver certification for the fifteenth consecutive year. She noted the township secured $2,200,000 in grants and said the first phase of the Montgomery Promenade is expected to open in the coming year, bringing additional grocery and dining options.

First Lady Tammy Murphy, introduced by the mayor, congratulated Singh and Committee Member Dennis Ahn and praised local public-service work. “It is an honor to be here in Montgomery Township,” Murphy said, and she singled out Singh’s wellness program as a model for local participation.

The ceremony included presentation of the colors by Boy Scout Troop 46 and brief remarks from committee members, who emphasized priorities for 2025 such as relocating public works out of a flood zone, removing an old municipal building to restore a stream corridor, and addressing the forthcoming state fourth-round affordable-housing process.

Mayor Singh closed by encouraging residents to engage with local nonprofits and volunteer programs, and the committee proceeded to consider appointments and other reorganization business later in the meeting.
