Parish attorney reports Cortez case dismissed; council directs counsel to answer demand letter

Counsel reported that plaintiffs in Cortez v. Tangipahoa Parish Government (pocket no. 20251743) filed a motion to dismiss with prejudice on the prior Friday, and stated "so that case is officially over." The council then moved into executive session to discuss other legal matters.
After returning from executive session (during which the council said no action was taken), a council member moved and the council voted to authorize the parish attorney to reach out and respond to a demand letter. The motion passed on roll call; council members did not disclose additional details about the subject matter of the demand letter during the public session.
No further public action was reported from the executive session. Counsel and staff did not provide additional documents or timelines for the response during the open meeting.
