The Tangipahoa Parish council on May 26 approved a series of contractor hires to address nuisance properties and authorized the parish to lien those properties for contract and administrative costs.
President Miller and staff said they had worked for weeks or months with the property owners on the listed properties and that letters and efforts to gain compliance had been exhausted in each case. Specific approvals included hires and liens for properties at 11173 Highway 22 West (Ponchatoula), 43388 Happywoods Road, 14015 Perks Way (Hammond), 18119 Davie Drive (Hammond) and 23493 Redwood Drive (Ponchatoula). Staff noted the pattern was not due to recent weather and reflected prolonged noncompliance in multiple districts.
Council members asked whether owners had made any effort to address problems; staff answered that for some properties there had been no response and that notices had been returned. After motions and seconds for each item the council carried the approvals on roll call.
The motions authorize staff to contract for mowing, trash removal or debris work and to file liens to recover costs if the parish completes the work. The council did not provide project-level cost estimates on the record; staff offered to supply details on request.
