Commission hears landfill capacity concerns; TDEC-closed pools spur Tweetsie Trail transfer

A community meeting was scheduled for Dec. 14 to gather feedback on those closures and to discuss whether the county could assume responsibility for the facilities. Frazier suggested partnering with TN Promise for community‑service support if the county takes over.
The commission approved a suspension of rules to permit Park & Rec to transfer funds internally, then voted to transfer $19,795 from Park & Rec line item 599 to 321 for a Tweetsie Trail bridge project (19 yes, 0 no, 1 abstain). The abstention was recorded for Austin Jaynes.
Public comments during the meeting included Marie Hodge of Roan Mountain urging improved emergency medical transport in her community and James McGee raising road‑condition concerns on Ridgecrest Drive. During commissioner comments, Charles Von Cannon urged residents to wear masks to protect others, noting lower COVID‑19 numbers in countries with widespread masking.
