Rocky Ridge council adopts updated Wildland-Urban Interface code in 4–1 vote

On April 15, 2026 the Rocky Ridge Town Council voted 4–1 to adopt the updated 2024 Utah Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) code and related Cooperative Wildfire System Agreement, moving the town toward stronger wildfire-risk measures for properties near wildland areas.

Council Member Chuck Todd moved to accept the updated code and Council Member Joanna Covington seconded the motion. Mayor Ronald Allred, Council Member Joanna Covington, Council Member Chuck Todd and Council Member Byron Allred voted in favor; Council Member Andrew Aagard voted against the measure. Town minutes record the motion as passed 4–1 and note that the formal ordinance still needs to be printed and signed.

The adopted code includes requirements aimed at reducing fire hazards near homes and structures: vegetation management with particular emphasis on clearing within 30 feet of structures, potential building upgrades to fire-resistant materials for properties bordering wildland areas, and expanded enforcement responsibilities for town staff. Council members and staff discussed that these requirements could raise compliance costs for residents on the town’s edges and may require cleanup where existing properties do not meet the clarifications in the code.

Council documents presented at the meeting framed the code as a risk-mitigation and liability-protection measure; the minutes list specific elements of a "visual triangle" and vegetation management under related agenda items, and identify implementation tasks that staff will complete following the ordinance’s formal publication and signature.

The ordinance adoption was placed on the record at the April 15 meeting; the minutes indicate the formal printed ordinance remains to be completed before the adoption is finalized in town records.
