The Ottawa Special Events Committee used its March 5 meeting to finalize dates, volunteers and entertainment for several upcoming community events.
Rich Crum reported Debate Days will take place Sunday, Aug. 23, with the parade starting at 1:00 p.m.; he asked committee members to help with line-up beginning at 11:30 a.m. The committee discussed a planned re-enactment to be scheduled on Friday or Saturday, dependent on WGN’s availability, and agreed to keep the Special Events Committee updated on that coordination.
The committee confirmed the Easter Egg Hunt will be held April 4, 2026, from 9 a.m. to noon. The minutes record two drink trucks, Kendall Coffee and little Madd Café, and two breakfast-oriented food trucks as vendors. Lucas Hennenfent was assigned to serve as MC; the first egg drop is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. The minutes note organizers decided there will be no golden eggs this year.
For the 4th of July, fireworks are scheduled to be set off at Central School with food trucks at Lincoln Place; Libido Funk is scheduled to perform. The minutes state these events are sponsored by ODA (Ottawa Downtown Association).
The committee also confirmed Music in the Park bookings, voting to fill one remaining date with the Chris Farrell band and Dirt Road Reckoning after considering three other bands. Organizers reminded members that the golf outing is set for May 16 at Deer Park Golf Club; 15 teams are currently committed and a minimum of 18 teams is needed, and hole sponsors remain outstanding. Jade Poundstone is the contact for golf outing sponsorship and team recruitment.
The meeting adjourned at 6:45 p.m.; the next meeting is April 2, 2026, at 5:30 p.m.
