GPR survey for Ashland’s Village Burial Ground likely delayed until May, commission says

The Ashland Historical Commission heard an update on Feb. 10 about plans for a ground-penetrating-radar (GPR) survey at the Village Burial Ground and concluded that the work will probably be delayed.
Clerk Helen Nickole said the working group "does not have a lot to report" yet and that the group is still gathering the information needed to support the spring GPR survey. She told the commission that, because of weather concerns, it is looking less likely the survey will resume in March and more likely to occur in May.
The update did not include a firm schedule or a funding decision. Commission members did not move or vote on funding at the meeting; staff and the working group will continue compiling preparation materials and logistical details before the next meeting.
The commission will revisit the Village Burial Ground timetable at its March meeting on March 10, 2026, or when the working group provides updated logistics and a budget estimate.
