DENTON — At the April 27 meeting of the Denton County MHMR Center Board of Trustees, Chair Dianne Hickey raised forming a committee to explore a Behavioral Health Diversion Center but the board agreed to table that step pending formal guidance from the Denton County Commissioners Court.
Trustees said the county commissioners would be a key partner in any diversion center effort and that it would be premature for the board to form a committee without a unified direction from the court. The minutes record the discussion as tabled to allow staff and trustees to gather more information on existing efforts.
Separately, trustees expressed concern that the board’s current bylaws provide an imprecise succession plan for the Executive Director; the bylaws state that the Chief Operations Officer will assume duties temporarily but do not specify subsequent board actions or timing. The board directed the Personnel Committee to review and draft a detailed succession and continuity plan and to include the revised plan on the May 2026 board meeting agenda.
The board adjourned at 2:47 p.m.; the minutes note the next meeting will be rescheduled due to a conflict and the new date will be provided later.
