Egg Harbor City Council awards Weisbecker demolition contract, adopts park fee changes and several resolutions

Egg Harbor City Council on Monday approved a package of resolutions that included awarding a demolition contract for the Weisbecker property at 135 Philadelphia Avenue, amending lake park reservation fees for residents, authorizing a bid process for tree maintenance and joining a regional electricity purchasing consortium.
Council voted to award demolition to the apparent low bidder, Frank Goldbraith / Sun Excavating and Demolition of Scotch Plains, N.J., for $157,000. The city's staff said bond ordinance funds are available to cover the cost and discussed placing a lien on the property to recover demolition expenses; the motion passed on a roll-call vote.
The council also adopted a resolution and accompanying fee schedule that creates a resident reservation fee for Acarb City Lake: $15 for a non-grill picnic table and $35 for a grill picnic table, available April 1 through Aug. 29, with residency verification required at city hall. The change was described as a concession to residents after concerns about prior fee adjustments; council members said no refunds would be issued but that staff would manage rain-related closures and scheduling.
Other measures approved included authorization to solicit bids for tree maintenance and removals, and a resolution to participate in the South Jersey purchasing consortium for electricity procurement. Each resolution was approved by roll call.
Council also approved the annual Arbor Day event at Peace Pilgrim Park, a mayoral monarch pledge resolution, several routine motions (bill list) and the annual National Prescription Drug Take Back announcement from the police department. The meeting concluded with community notes including congratulatory remarks for local student-athletes and a short discussion about site lighting complaints on a state highway corridor that staff will investigate.
Separately, the council administered the oath of office to Benjamin Springer, who joined the police department after prior service as a military police officer and experience at the Atlantic County Police Academy and Brigantine Police Department.
The council adjourned after public comment and routine business.
