Commissioners approve routine financial actions, tax orders and insurance additions

Lipscomb County Commissioners on May 11 approved a slate of routine administrative and financial measures, including prior minutes and a check register, renewal bonds for jailer/dispatchers, tax-administration orders and an insurance addition for a volunteer fire department.
The court unanimously approved the minutes from its April 13 meeting and accepted the vendor/readables list, with one Precinct 4 invoice ($603.19) set aside for further review. The county’s check register covering 4/14/2026–5/11/2026 and a list of specific payees and amounts (total: $361,876.76) were examined and approved.
Tax-related items approved included authorization to submit the county’s 2026 Texas Unclaimed Property report and approval of contracts for 2026 tax collection. The court adopted an order allowing discounts from ad valorem taxes if paid before January 2027, appointed an officer to calculate the No-New-Revenue and voter-approval tax rates for 2026 at the recommendation of Tax Assessor-Collector Raelene Copeland, and approved an order providing split payment of 2026 taxes.
On property-tax policy, the commissioners adopted a resolution regarding taxation of non-income-producing personal property (boats, automobiles, airplanes, motorhomes and travel trailers) in accordance with Texas Property Tax Code §11.14; the court recorded the county’s election and approved the resolution unanimously.
The court also voted to add the Locust Grove Volunteer Fire Department’s fire barn to the county insurance program. Other items recorded as approved or continued were routine vendor payments, bonds for Juanita Rockwell and Jessica Marie Keller, and continuation of the county’s burn ban (see related items). No controversial or split votes were recorded in the minutes.
The court set a special meeting for May 20, 2026, to discuss countywide economic development with an Extension/AgriLife representative and Booker EDC.
