Landfill Supervisor Jayson Lower told the Caribou County commissioners on April 25 that the landfill’s 963 machine had injector pump trouble but has been repaired and returned to service.
Lower announced a free garbage week from May 2 through May 14 and asked how to treat commercial garbage during that period; commissioners directed him to maintain the historical policy of charging commercial customers. Lower said the landfill needs roughly 500 loads of dirt per year for cover but would like to haul about 750 loads to build a stockpile. He reported contractors estimated waste dirt should sell for about $10 per yard.
Lower said he had discussed obtaining dirt with local landowners (including Dave Barthlome) and planned to contact the Idaho Department of Lands for clarification on excavation rules; minutes record that Dave later suggested preparing an agreement and having the county attorney or Dave prepare it for review. Commissioners told Lower to have Dave prepare the agreement and then forward it to the county attorney for review.
No purchase contract was approved at the meeting; Lower was directed to pursue the agreement path and clarify regulatory needs before excavation or hauling.
