Planning Commission backs Grace Pizza outdoor deck and seating area; waives renewal suggested

The Papillion Planning Commission on March 25 recommended approval of a special use permit for Grace Pizza (SUP-26-0001) to construct a small raised deck, pergola, a custom storage-container bar and a 6–8-foot fence that would add roughly 30 outdoor seats.
Applicant Joseph Gomez (speaker 9) described the plan as a modest expansion to provide more sit-down seating and community gathering space: “it adds roughly about 30 seats for us.” Gomez said he and neighboring businesses had discussed operations, including coordinating times for live music.
Commissioners raised questions about neighbor outreach and the applicant’s request to waive the standard renewal requirement for special use permits. Staff explained renewal periods can be set by the commission — from annual to five years — or waived, and that staff supported the applicant’s request to waive renewal because the project involves permanent, costly improvements. Commissioner (speaker 3) moved to recommend approval contingent on the three items in the staff report; the clerk recorded a 6-0 vote.
Chair (speaker 1) noted that if the business operates outside the permit’s limits the city retains authority to revoke the permit under applicable ordinance and nuisance/noise rules. The commission forwarded its recommendation to City Council.
