Mansfield HRC outlines Pride celebration plans for June 5 at Betsy Patterson Square

The Mansfield Human Rights Commission spent substantial time planning a Pride celebration set for Friday, June 5, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Betsy Patterson Square. Sarah DeLuca, the town's youth services supervisor, outlined logistics for tablers and activities and asked commissioners to help recruit performers and school groups.
DeLuca said the event already has tentative commitments from the Mansfield Public Library, EO Smith GSA, FAVOR (represented by Lisa Gerard), the Eastern Highlands Health District and student groups, and that she had started collecting RSVPs. Planned activities include a hula-hoop performance, henna and face-painting, pride tie-dye T-shirt making for youth, a possible parade around the square, and the pride canvas wings photo display that lets attendees stand in front of decorative wings for photos.
Commissioners suggested adding low-barrier interactive elements such as a story table or a "what are you wondering about?" prompt station, anonymous paper haiku/limerick prompts that attendees could post on a tree or display, and a portable display that could move to other town venues through the month. DeLuca said she would follow up on performers and school participation with GSA and middle-school groups,
Commissioners also discussed a flyer for tablers and outreach; DeLuca agreed to send a draft to Chair and to run final artwork by Margaret for town branding approval. Several members volunteered to staff the HRC table for portions of the event.
The commission emphasized keeping event flyers concise and accessible and agreed to push promotion through the HRC email address (hrc@mansfieldct.org) and partner organizations.
