South Milwaukee announces new rooftop venues, pickleball courts and fall events

The presenter announced two incoming businesses — Vertua Coffee and Valor wine — that will feature a rooftop area able to hold more than 40 people. The update also said the former soccer facility will be repurposed to house 12 indoor pickleball courts, described as a "premier" local facility.
Public art and community celebrations were highlighted as well. City staff credited Growing South Milwaukee and local donors for two new murals installed recently and said chainsaw artists will create a life-size carving called "South Milwaukee SAM". The presenter also mentioned a ceremony honoring artist Joe Aspen, identified in the update as a South Milwaukee resident and owner of Chisel Point Enterprise.
Multiple family-focused events were announced: a Family Spooktacular is scheduled for Oct. 19 at the senior center with pumpkins, food, free face painting and an evening movie at 6 p.m. The city asked volunteers to participate in a trunk-and-treat event (volunteer sign-up is available via a link provided in the update) and reminded families that city trick-or-treat hours are Oct. 26 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The presenter also reminded residents that fall leaf collection runs through Nov. 15 and that leaves may be placed at the curb for pickup. On elections, the update stated the general election will be held Nov. 5 and that in-person absentee voting at the clerk's office runs Oct. 12–31 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with extended hours on Friday, Nov. 1, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The last day to register in the clerk's office is Nov. 1; the presenter advised bringing photo ID and proof of residency. The city's communications were noted as well: the presenter encouraged residents to follow the official City of South Milwaukee Facebook page, saying it has more than 8,000 followers. A consumer-focused tip from the water utility advised homeowners to check their water meter's small round dial; if the dial moves when no water is in use, that indicates a leak and homeowners should investigate.
