Broken Bow council authorizes CDBG pre-application and approves $17,150 KENO flagpole grant

Broken Bow — The City Council on May 10 authorized the Central Nebraska Economic Development District to prepare a pre-application for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds to support future street projects and approved use of KENO funds to purchase a $17,150 flagpole for Paul Brown Baseball Field.
During a public hearing on Resolution 2022-5 the council voted to grant authority for the CDBG pre-application and to authorize the mayor to sign necessary documents. The minutes record that the pre-application is intended to pursue funding for street projects; no specific project scope or dollar request was recorded in the minutes.
The council also approved Resolution 2022-6 to use KENO funds to pay $17,150 for a flagpole at Paul Brown Baseball Field. The motion to approve the KENO expenditure passed on a unanimous roll-call vote.
Separately, City Administrator Dan Knoell informed the council the city received a check from EMC for $74,482.32 "for a partial reimbursement for the Workman's Comp premium," which he said reflected improved safety and fewer claims. The council had earlier approved the consent agenda, which included payroll, vendor payments and volunteer service rosters totaling $172,961.57.
The council adjourned at 6:25 p.m. after completing the evening’s business.
