Nicole, chair of the Monroe CT250 committee, opened a special hybrid meeting to review fundraising and event plans and said the group must formalize a year-to-date financial report even if town hall processes funds.
The committee prioritized a central "Day in the Park" as the focal event for the townwide celebration and discussed a range of ancillary activities including school displays, a self-guided historic property tour, luminaries for sale, a parade presence and a possible gala. "If we just do a day in the park, and break down subassignments, that can be our focus," a committee member said, urging the group to concentrate on achievable items.
Members expressed a strong desire to involve schools and agreed to provide a short, generic rubric to principals so students can prepare displays or essays in February through April. A committee member familiar with local heritage work said much of the property-level history being compiled on the Monroe Historical Society Facebook page will feed into the tour and displays.
On scheduling, one member noted May 9 as a candidate park date and said the committee must reserve the park and inform public-safety leadership: "May 9, then we need to reserve park from Thursday through Sunday for the tent set up," the member said, adding that Chief White should be notified so police planning can proceed.
The committee also pared down the events list, striking or deferring larger, resource-intensive ideas (mini-golf, some concert/ball concepts and certain parade add-ons) to focus capacity on the park day and related school and luminary efforts. Members discussed balancing workloads so no single volunteer is overburdened and agreed to sign up for specific items.
For next steps, the group assigned ownership of discrete event responsibilities and set a hybrid follow-up meeting for Dec. 18. Chair Nicole asked members to come prepared with concrete dates and task lists: "We need to come to Dec. 18 with ideas and a game plan dates," she said. The meeting adjourned at 8:06 p.m.
The committee will next meet on Dec. 18 to finalize dates, vendor contacts and volunteer assignments; members flagged park reservation and police coordination as immediate logistical priorities.
