'Know Your Rights' trainings posted in English and Spanish; indigenous-language versions planned

City staff told the Human Rights Commission on Feb. 11 that the Know Your Rights trainings produced with CC Media and the Oregon Law Center are now posted on the CCTV YouTube channel and the city’s immigration resource page in English and Spanish.
The trainings, each just over 30 minutes in length, will be broadcast on local channels and made available in radio format. Staff said the city has allocated funds to pay translators to dub the Spanish-language version into selected indigenous languages commonly spoken in Marion County; staff said there are "over 50 some odd indigenous languages from Mexico and Central America spoken in Oregon" and the initial focus will be the languages most spoken in Marion County and the Mid-Valley.
Staff also noted viewer numbers: roughly 300–400 views were recorded a day or two after the English version was posted. Commissioners thanked staff and partner organizations and discussed outreach strategies to increase community reach.
Staff recommended the Commission refer residents to the posted trainings for more detailed guidance about administrative vs. judicial warrants and rights during encounters with law enforcement.
