The Jefferson County Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved the Southern Group as the county's lobbyist following a review of four responses to a request for proposals, County Manager Shannon Metty told the board.
The selection followed a committee review that cited the Southern Group's thorough application packet and large clientele. Commissioner Austin Hosford moved to approve the recommendation; Commissioner Gene Hall seconded the motion and the board voted unanimously to adopt it.
The decision was one of several routine actions at the board's Dec. 18 regular session. Earlier in the meeting the board unanimously approved the day’s agenda and the consent agenda (both motions moved by Commissioner Hosford and carrying unanimous votes). Commissioner Jessica Gramling moved to approve a slate of committee appointments; Commissioner Hosford seconded and the board approved the appointments unanimously.
Appointments and representatives noted by County Manager Shannon Metty included retaining Commissioner Gramling on the Apalachee Regional Planning Council and the Aucilla Area Solid Waste Governing Board, Commissioner White’s representation of the local U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) working group and his role on the Tourist Development Council, Commissioner Hall’s representation on the North Florida Economic Development Partnership (with Deputy County Manager Ron Russo proposed as alternate), and Gramling’s role on the North Florida Workforce Consortium. The transcript also notes that an appointee is still needed for the county’s Affordable Housing provider position.
Clerk of Court Trey Hightower and County Attorney Evan Rosenthal offered holiday wishes during the meeting, and Commissioner Gramling asked the board for suggestions about celebrating Jefferson County’s 250th birthday. The board adjourned by unanimous vote following a brief discussion of property items and Montivilla reconstruction.
