Pike Road council approves conditional‑use permits for manufactured home and veterinary clinic

Pike Road’s council on Jan. 28 approved two conditional‑use requests: a manufactured home on roughly 1 acre at 404 Saint James Church Loop and a veterinary clinic for Pike Road Mobile Veterinary Services at 11650 Highway 80 East.
Senior Planner Daryl Brigsby presented both items, saying the manufactured‑home application covered “approximately 1 acre” in agricultural zoning and that the Planning Commission recommended the council approve the request. Brigsby also explained that Dr. Marlena Nelson wants to convert the former Bubba Cove/Pep Palace building to expand her mobile veterinary service into a clinic.
Councilors discussed why the veterinary clinic requires conditional use review; one member called the clinic “a slam dunk bill” and staff said the town’s rules treat uses that could include kennels or outdoor runs as conditional so potential noise or neighborhood impacts can be reviewed and mitigated. After the public hearing, Councilor Bergman moved to accept the manufactured‑home resolution, seconded by Councilor Robinson; the motion passed. Councilor Bradford moved to approve the veterinary clinic, seconded by Councilor Bergman; that motion also passed.
“Thank you for bringing your business to Pike Road,” the chair said after the veterinary motion passed, welcoming the applicant.
Both approvals follow the Planning Commission’s recommendations and will allow the applicants to proceed under any standard permitting conditions the town attaches to conditional‑use approvals.
