Gilford says DPW building back on schedule with August occupancy expected; timber guardrail change order denied

Public Works Director Meghan Theriault updated the Gilford Board of Selectmen on May 13, saying the town's new Department of Public Works building is back on schedule and is expected to be ready for occupancy in August.
Theriault said the project is past the 50% expenditure point and that BPS will perform a projected final cost analysis. She described construction milestones: the garage side is being prepared for a concrete pour with the vapor barrier and radiant-floor piping installed; rebar installation is scheduled; masonry work is largely complete until the garage floor pour; light-gauge metal framing and siding work are underway; and rough plumbing and electrical work have begun. Work on the pole barn has also started.
During the update Selectman Gus Benavides moved to approve a change order of $4,480 to install a timber guardrail instead of steel. The motion failed 1-2, with Benavides voting in favor and Chair Dale Channing Eddy and Selectman Richard Grenier voting against it. Theriault noted the schedule improvements and the upcoming cost analysis.
The board thanked Theriault for the report. No formal budgetary action was taken at the meeting beyond noting the pending projected-cost analysis.
