At its Feb. 12 meeting the Windham Conservation Commission reviewed a fence estimate for Fessenden Dam and discussed approaches to clearing brush on conservation properties.
Scott Johnson reported he contacted Fences Unlimited and provided an approximate cost estimate of $1,575 for 40 feet of split‑rail fencing (6 posts, 8 rails and installation). Commissioners discussed fence layout; members noted that the kiosk is already installed and visible.
For brush removal, Chair Michael Specian said he had spoken with the Fire Department, which would allow him to borrow a pump so the commission could burn brush piles. Scott Johnson asked why the commission would not use a chipper; he said chippers require more work but are manageable with proper equipment and experience. Vice Chair Wayne Morris said he was worried that chipping would be more work than burning and therefore less likely to be completed.
No formal procurement decision was made at the meeting; the fence estimate and the pump borrowing arrangement are next steps for staff and commissioners to pursue.
