Jefferson County commissioners approve several contracts, award Little Rest Farm Road paving

Jefferson County commissioners approved multiple county contracts and awarded a road-paving contract at their May 14 meeting in Madison.
Commissioners voted to hire Waggoner, Irwin & Scheele & Associates to review and revise the county employee handbook. The board was presented an estimated cost range “as a worst-case scenario” between $8,840 and $10,920; the final cost will depend on the extent of revisions required. Commissioner David Bramer moved to approve the contract and Commissioner Ron Lee seconded; the motion carried.
The board also approved two on-call engineering agreements for the Highway Department — one with SJCA Engineering and one with Clark Dietz — intended to provide hourly, as-needed engineering support. Highway Superintendent Jason Copeland described the agreements as standard and similar to existing arrangements.
For roadwork, the board reviewed paving quotes for Little Rest Farm Road. All Star Paving quoted $265,693.85; Dave O’Mara quoted $215,554.00. Commissioners voted to award the contract to Dave O’Mara.
Auditor Heather Huff presented a three-year contract with Dossett Consulting to prepare the county’s federal cost allocation plan for child-support indirect expenses. Dossett’s services were credited with securing about $78,327 in prior reimbursements; the new contract is $18,000 over three years and was approved.
County Project Manager Brian Amick presented and the board approved a Patriot Engineering proposal for six soil borings at a cost of $5,400. Chief Deputy Laura Pickel presented a proposed Cintas contract under state contract pricing and said it would be forwarded to the county attorney for review; no final action was taken on the Cintas item at this meeting.
The approvals were made by motion and recorded in the minutes; each motion carried. The county noted expected savings or reimbursements tied to several of the contracts and said attorney review will be sought where appropriate before execution.
The commissioners adjourned after completing the agenda.
