Board hears RecPlex, tree‑board and Oasis season updates; staff outline signage and landscaping plans

At the March 4 meeting, city parks staff provided a set of operational updates to the Brighton Parks & Recreation Advisory Board.
Ryan Smith presented a RecPlex update (presentation details were not expanded in the meeting record). Kyle Sylvester reported one available solo spot on the city side for the District Plan group and described planned signage improvements, including removing a frequently damaged wayfinding sign at 144th and Sable and replacing it with a new identifying sign for Petrocco Farms. Kyle also said the department plans to re‑landscape the roundabout at the Rec Center and will try to align that work with an upcoming shutdown to reduce disruption.
Kyle reported that the Tree Board is marking 40 years as a Tree City USA and will launch a discounted tree sale (about $40 per tree, described as roughly half the usual price) and will partner with the Butterfly Pavilion on pollinator‑friendly projects using available funding. Chair Cory Moul thanked staff for resolving a drainage issue at Pawlowski Field.
Travis Haines said the department is beginning preparations for the next budget cycle and noted the complexity across multiple divisions; he also said the board will hold three interviews next month to fill open vacancies. Carleen Watts said the 2026 Oasis season will start in June and extend later into August with added weekend coverage through Sept. 14; she highlighted the Active Adult Center spaghetti luncheon fundraiser, a new spring‑break youth camp, and expansion of the Egg Splash to both Saturday and Sunday due to community interest.
Procedural votes recorded during the meeting included approval of minutes from Feb. 4, 2026 (recorded as 6-0). No major budget allocations or policy adoptions were voted at this session.
