Shamong committee approves wine-festival permit, discusses roundabout and walking path grant

Shamong Township Committee on Aug. 6 approved event and project measures and discussed pending county and grant-funded infrastructure work.
The committee unanimously authorized Resolution 2024R-67 to allow a limited-brewery off-premise event permit for a beer garden at Valenzano WineFest, scheduled Sept. 20–22; Community Care Food and Clothing Pantry will benefit from the event.
County-led work on a roundabout at Willow Grove and Stokes Road is advancing: survey work is complete and Burlington County expects to finish final design next year and tentatively begin construction in late 2025 or early 2026, township staff said.
On a locally managed project, the committee reviewed a $66,000 grant award for a walking path at Dinkletown Recreation Complex. Staff and the township engineer discussed phasing bids and using open-space funds to avoid repeated mobilization costs and asked the engineer to prepare phased alternates for bidding.
Committee members also debated several road change orders (Resolutions 2024R-68 through 2024R-71). One member noted a $52,000 change order appeared to represent about a 27% increase over an original line item while the packet listed 21.98%; the township engineer explained that allowances, split-phase accounting and grant thresholds produced the reported figures and that projects remain under overall grant limits. The committee voted to approve the change orders.
In follow-up, the township engineer reported nearing closeout on Grama Lake Road phase 3 and wrapping related phase work; staff said they would coordinate further with the county and contractors as design and bidding proceed.
