Town officials said Harbour Town, a private nonprofit that manages harbor development, requested the lease to bring the vessel to Edenton Harbor as part of broader harbor‑area programming. The proposed initial term is one year, with the council to revisit the agreement at its conclusion.
During discussion council members asked about the two likely docking locations — a safer weather location where the boat has previously been moored and a more protected spot further inside the breakwall for inclement weather and hurricane threat. Staff said the arrangement would get the town through the upcoming season and that a permanent location is planned once harbor construction is finished.
A motion to approve the lease was made, seconded and carried by voice vote with no recorded opposition. Council members noted the lease term and the need to coordinate movements during protective actions for storms.
