Calhoun County adds HR generalist to sheriff's office, reclassifies deputy

The Calhoun County Board of Commissioners voted May 21 to approve a staffing allocation for the Sheriff's Office to add an HR Generalist position and to reclassify one deputy position intended to strengthen the chain of command.
"The staffing allocation request is to add an HR Generalist position within the Sheriff's Office to enhance support for personnel-related matters," Assistant County Administrator Megan Banning said when presenting the item, adding that the county intends to reclassify one deputy position and that the cost of the changes for the remainder of 2026 will be offset by savings.
HR/Labor Relations Director Dr. Karissa Hutchins was present to answer questions from commissioners. The motion (Res.065-2026) was moved by Commissioner Matt Saxton and seconded by Commissioner Dan Strowbridge.
The board recorded a roll-call vote of yes — Commissioners Derek King, Al Morehart, Dominic Oo, Dan Strowbridge and Matt Saxton (5); absent/excused — Commissioners Monique French and Gary Tompkins (2). The motion carried.
The county did not provide a line-item cost breakdown during the meeting; staff said anticipated 2026 costs would be covered by realized savings for the remainder of the year. Commissioners requested staff be available to answer follow-up questions during the budget process as needed.
