Tazewell County CPMT approves funding for foster-care cases, records $2.5M county allocation to CSA program

The Tazewell County Community Policy and Management Team met Aug. 25 and unanimously approved minutes and financial reports, recorded a county allocation of $2.5 million to the Tazewell County Children’s Services Act program for fiscal year 2026, and approved funding for cases discussed in a closed session covering foster care, child protective services, Cumberland, court services and Tazewell County Schools.

Robbie Davis, CPMT chair, called the meeting to order at 10:01 a.m. and members confirmed attendance. Sheri Hale moved to approve the July 28 meeting minutes; Roberta Boyd seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Arlene Matney moved to approve the July FY2025 financial report (seconded by Melinda Smith) and Melinda Smith moved to approve the July FY2026 financial report (seconded by Robin Jackson); both motions were carried unanimously.

Arlene Matney, fiscal agent for Tazewell County Administration, informed the group that $2.5 million in county funds is allocated to the county’s Children’s Services Act program for FY2026. The funding figure was reported to the CPMT during the meeting and was noted on the record.

Following a closed-session review of individual cases, Arlene Matney moved — with Melinda Smith seconding — to approve funding to be provided for services related to foster care, child protective services, Cumberland, court services and Tazewell County Schools for the cases discussed. The motion was unanimously carried.

The CPMT certified that the closed meeting complied with the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, citing Code of Virginia §§2.2-3711 and 2.2-3712; that certification passed with a recorded vote of seven ayes, zero nays and three members absent.

The meeting adjourned at 11:12 a.m. The CPMT’s next meeting is scheduled for Sept. 22, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.
