San Diego council accepts police chief resignation, appoints and swears in successor

The City Council accepted the resignation of the city’s police chief during its Aug. 8 meeting and later appointed a successor by resolution. Following the appointment, an oath of office was administered. The new chief recited the oath, stating, "I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the duties of the office of chief of police ... and will, to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution and the laws of the United States and the State of Texas." Council members congratulated the appointee after the oath.
