Harrison mayor proclaims recognition for Girl Scout Samantha Farrar and her 'Sam’s Sacred Style' project

At the start of the meeting Supervisor Tom Scappatici presented a proclamation recognizing Samantha Farrar for earning the Girl Scout Gold Award and commended her service to the community.
"This is Samantha Farrar who came up with a great idea and implemented it, and she should be very proud of herself," Scappatici said as he read the proclamation describing the Gold Award and Farrar’s project, Sam’s Sacred Style. The proclamation praised Farrar’s leadership, initiative and service.
Farrar told the board she started Sam’s Sacred Style to reduce textile waste and help families who cannot afford communion and confirmation dresses. "I hosted dress drives in different locations by the help of the Denapoli hospitality venues and churches like Saint Anthony's Church to collect the dresses," she said, describing on-site fittings and a reuse program that lets recipients pass dresses along when they no longer need them.
The board and audience applauded; town leaders presented the proclamation and thanked Farrar for her work.
The recognition is honorary and was presented at the Feb. 5 meeting.
