The Kaysville City Council approved a resolution amending the city’s personnel rules to set the standard introductory (probationary) period at six months and to allow extensions to a one‑year period for positions that require extensive training.
City attorney Nick said the change would apply to newly hired and promoted employees; the longer period is intended for roles that include lengthy training or certification. He cited police and some fire positions as examples where the probationary period could be extended so the city has adequate time to evaluate employees after training. The council moved and approved the resolution by voice vote with no additional conditions.
The resolution was presented as an item the council had discussed previously and was framed as a clarification to allow supervisors more time to evaluate positions with substantial training requirements.
