Design consultants for Laramie Farms presented a residential lighting plan on Nov. 19 that emphasizes safety while minimizing glare for nearby homes. The lighting team said they selected full‑cutoff fixtures, warm color temperature (about 3,000K) and relatively low mounting heights to limit off‑site impacts.
"Ultimately what we shoot for in spaces like this is just safety and security," said Scott Kimball of Visible Light. He described fixtures with soft lensing, house‑side shields and options for grouping fixtures into wireless zones so roadways, parking areas and residential facades can be controlled independently.
Board members and neighbors pushed for visualizations and asked whether fixtures could dim when no activity is present. The consultant said rudimentary 3‑D renderings or aerially rendered night views can be produced for the final application, and that dimming or motion‑sensing is technically feasible though not currently specified in the preliminary plan.
Context: The project is elevated above adjacent houses in places, so perimeter lighting and fixture selection will be a focus during final design; the applicants said they expect to target a "low" lighting category rather than the medium or high categories in the zoning ordinance and that waivers should not be necessary.
Next steps: The team offered to provide additional renderings or a simplified model showing expected nighttime views and to consider a field mock‑up of fixture types and color temperature for board and abutter review at final design.
