Aberdeen district reports literacy, curriculum and wellness progress; 6–12 math adoption set by voice vote

The board heard about the SOAR reading intervention used at elementary sites (adding 30 minutes to elementary reading schedules in pilot schools) and the curriculum review and selection for grades 6–12 math.
On wellness and safety, staff summarized a second annual wellness challenge that ran six weeks and recorded 241 participants districtwide; the program included themes such as healthy eating, 30 minutes of exercise daily, acts of kindness and self-care, plus guest bonus classes (yoga, Pilates, nutrition) and bonus points for preventive care appointments.
For safety, staff reported completing ALICE drills at each school site (minimum two per site) and conducting emergency preparedness tabletop exercises with Aberdeen Police, Brown County Emergency Management and Aberdeen Fire and Rescue.
The board then considered the second reading of the 6–12 secondary math adoption. With no questions raised, Board member Darren Beckes moved to approve the second reading and the motion was seconded by Dr. Borden; the board approved the adoption by voice vote with no opposed recorded on the transcript.
