The Grantsville City Council approved Resolution 2025‑76 Oct. 22 authorizing the surplus of police K‑9 Ludo and his equipment so the dog can be transferred to another agency or handler.
Police staff told the council Ludo is six years old and was acquired by the department when he was about two. The dog’s handler resigned and the chief said finding a new local handler who would take Ludo has proven difficult; Carbon County had offered about $3,500 for the dog, according to the chief. The chief also asked that Ludo’s vest and equipment, which are sized for him, be transferred with the dog if appropriate.
Councilmember (speaker 11) moved to approve the resolution to surplus Ludo and the equipment; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote.
Outcome and next steps: The motion carried (all in favor) and staff will coordinate transfer details with the receiving agency, including whether to include Ludo’s vest and gear.
