Oneida County senior nutrition advisory council to monitor client concern over salad-dressing sugar; hears budget shortfall and survey updates

The Oneida County Senior Nutrition Advisory Council met May 13 at the ADRC of Oneida County’s Balsam Room and agreed to monitor a client concern about sugar in the program’s salad dressings while continuing current menu options.
The council, chaired by Lee Emmer, took up routine business and program updates at the 12:32 p.m. meeting. The body unanimously approved the agenda (motion by Kathy Plautz, seconded by Lynda Lukowski) and unanimously accepted minutes from its Feb. 18, 2026 meeting (motion by Plautz, seconded by Lukowski).
The meeting’s most immediate operational item came when Heather Beach, staff member, said a client had raised concerns about "the amount of sugar in the salad dressings." After discussion, the council "agreed to leave options as is for now and monitor any future concerns," Beach said.
The council also reviewed program operations. Staff member Mya Olkowski reported that all current council members had agreed to continue their service for an additional term and that the nutrition survey required by GWAAR remains in review; the council recommended adding a space for additional information after question 1 on the survey. Olkowski described the survey as required by GWAAR and sought council feedback on additional questions.
On program performance, Olkowski gave an update on malnutrition screenings conducted from Jan. 1 forward and reviewed the Nutrition Program "Budget vs Actual" year-to-date, reporting a current deficit. The minutes record this budget update as informational; the amount of the deficit was not specified.
Olkowski and Beach reviewed the nutrition statistical report; the council requested a future agenda item to provide an update on a three-year review with GWAAR. The council scheduled its next meeting for Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at 12:30 p.m. The meeting was adjourned at 1:10 p.m.
