The Fitchburg Council on Aging reported April 9 that the Senior Center has signed a $37,000 contract with Silvio’s Masonry and Landscaping of Fitchburg to repoint brickwork and begin repairs in the near future.
Amanda Koeck, executive director of the Senior Center, told members the contract has been finalized and said it will address needed exterior repairs. Koeck also reported an increase in the COA’s FY27 budget request driven by building and grounds maintenance, specifically citing $5,000 for elevator repairs and water-heater issues. She said she will present the budget request to the Finance Committee on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at the Fitchburg Legislative Building, 700 Main Street, and urged COA members to attend.
Koeck additionally reminded members about letters relating to the Elm Street Corridor Improvement Grant; paper copies of the letter are available at the Senior Center kiosk and can be placed in a red box for delivery to Mayor Squailia’s office. Koeck said ongoing parking shortages around the center were raised at a March 17 Downtown Parking Outreach Meeting hosted by Mary Jo Bohart, Fitchburg’s director of economic development.
Next steps: Koeck will present the FY27 budget request to the Finance Committee on May 13 and report any committee feedback at a subsequent COA meeting.
