Heather Behrens, City of Waukee director of communication and marketing, presented to the Dallas County Board of Supervisors during the Jan. 22 budget workshop on how a communications position can support government operations.
Behrens described her work collaborating with departments, businesses and the public; working with community entities such as the chamber of commerce; and correcting inaccurate narratives on social media. She framed the position as a resource that can improve information flow between county departments, local governments and constituents.
The presentation came during the board's budget workshop as supervisors reviewed requests for positions and outside funding. Board members acknowledged the potential value of communications support while continuing to evaluate staffing requests alongside other budget priorities. No formal action was taken on staffing at the Jan. 22 meeting.
