Weed supervisor reports state funding, equipment upgrades and cloud-seeding notes

Weed Supervisor Scott Shuler reported to commissioners Feb. 9 that he attended the annual Idaho Weed Control Superintendents meeting in Boise, met ISDA Director Celia Gould and expects about $6,000 for Caribou County projects this year. Shuler listed local target areas including Thatcher, Grays Lake, Diamond Creek & Lanes Creek, and Stump Creek.
Shuler said the Idaho Counties Risk Management Program (ICRMP) advised that volunteers are covered when participating on designated work days. He described updates to the county's weed truck, including installation of sumps to aid chemical removal and an upgraded engine pump (wiring remaining). He said Department personnel will receive full four-wheeler training and safety certification.
Shuler also provided cloud-seeding usage numbers reported by private land users: about 15 gallons at Hulse in Bancroft, 15 gallons at Ayers Ranch, 10 gallons at Christensen in Chesterfield and 10 gallons at Carter in Thatcher; he said excess cloud-seeding fuel will be available next year. He agreed to provide old spray records for the Cheatbeck Road area to Prosecutor Doug Wood upon request.
