Landfill supervisor to buy new trailer; commissioners approve $49,000 bid

Landfill Supervisor Jason Lower told the board Feb. 9 that used trailers were scarce and presented three bids for new trailers. He recommended a dump-bed trailer for hauling wood and branch material and said the trailer purchase would be paid over two budget years. Commissioner Mark Mathews moved to accept Westem Truck & Trailer's tri-axle bid of $49,000; Commissioner Earl Somsen seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Lower also reported the 2014 groundwater report conducted by CES was favorable. He said crushing operations at the landfill have proceeded more slowly than anticipated but are financially breakeven and have yielded roughly six months of additional space.
The landfill supervisor noted the county typically hauls one load a week to Hyrum and that selling steel was delayed because current steel prices are low. The motion authorizes staff to proceed with the trailer purchase per the approved bid.
