Emery County commissioners approve library technology grant, CJIS policies, bylaws amendments and start sale of small Green River parcel

Emery County commissioners on July 15 approved multiple routine but consequential measures: acceptance of a 2025 library technology grant, formal adoption of CJIS IT security policies for the county attorney and justice court, amendments to the Huntington Municipal Airport Advisory Board bylaws, and initiation of the sale process for a small county-owned parcel in Green River.
Library director Desiree Malley told the commission the Utah State Library Division awarded the county system reimbursement grants totaling up to $24,526 to purchase tablets, maker-space equipment, a copier/scanner and patron computers. Malley said funds must be expended and the technology installed by Sept. 8, 2025. The commission voted to accept the grant.
County legal and IT staff summarized work on a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) audit and said formal adoption of updated CJIS IT security policies is required for the next audit. The commission adopted the policies unanimously.
The commission also approved amendments to the newly created Huntington Municipal Airport Advisory Board bylaws to permit open applications (rather than direct nominations), to stagger initial board terms (two members for two years, three members for four years), and to add residency language allowing appointees to live in Emery County or any municipality within the county.
On a separate item, commissioners agreed to begin the process to sell Parcel 1-151E-24 in Green River, describing it as a tiny parcel sandwiched between private properties and too small for development. The board said residents have expressed interest and directed staff to move forward with the sale process.
All votes on these routine items passed with aye votes recorded for the commissioners present. Several commissioners used the elected-officials report to highlight upcoming community events, including county fair activities.
