Polk County commissioners approve claims, lease for veterans officer and foreclosure resolution

The Polk County Board of Commissioners on June 18 approved warrants for county claims across multiple funds and took three recorded votes on routine business, including a lease for Veterans Service Officer space and a resolution to foreclose a tax sale certificate.
Chairman Jerry Westring opened the meeting at 9:30 a.m., noted that a current copy of the Open Meetings Act is posted in the room, and moved to allow claims and draw warrants against the various funds as presented. Commissioner Boruch seconded the motion; the roll call vote recorded Westring, aye; Boruch, aye; Boss, aye.
The General Fund claims list contained a variety of payroll and vendor payments including a salaries line of $76,000.44 and multiple vendor disbursements for equipment and services. Road Fund disbursements and other fund items were also presented and approved as part of the claims process.
On separate motions later in the meeting, Commissioner Boss moved to approve a lease agreement for the Veterans Service Officer that would lease the north 33 feet of the building at 451 Hawkeye Street from Lodge No. 65, A. F. and A. M. of Osceola; Commissioner Boruch seconded. The roll call vote was Boss, aye; Boruch, aye; Westring, aye, and the motion carried.
Treasurer Barb Swanson reported one Tax Sale Certificate, purchased by the county on June 15, 2021, now requires foreclosure. Commissioner Boss moved to adopt a resolution directing the county attorney to foreclose Tax Sale Certificate No. 900; Commissioner Boruch seconded. The roll call vote was Boss, aye; Boruch, aye; Westring, aye, and the resolution was adopted.
The board also approved collateral pledged by Polk County banks and held by the County Treasurer as presented.
The meeting adjourned at 11:50 a.m.; the board is scheduled to meet again on June 25 and July 2, 2024.
