The Lyon County School Board unanimously approved the district's fiscal year 2027 final budget after a public hearing and a presentation from Chief Financial Officer Liliana Camacho Polco. "I am presenting a balanced budget for fiscal year 27," Camacho Polco told the board, and she described enrollment and per-pupil funding changes tied to recent state legislation (base per-pupil funding was described as rising from $11,491 to $11,577, an $86 increase per student).
Board members also approved several operational measures tied to facilities and services.
• Single-point-of-entry guaranteed maximum prices: The board approved GMP awards to Pellet Construction for secure entry projects at Yerington High School ($195,572.13) and Silverstage High School ($283,372.01) after staff reported bids came in within the district's budget assumptions.
• Chartwells food services contract: The board approved the annual renewal of a five-year contract with Chartwells for school food services. Executive Director of Operations Harmon Banes reported a renegotiation that shifted program finances in the district's favor, describing "a $400,000 swing" from a projected $250,000 loss to an anticipated $150,000 gain and saying the change helps maintain the Community Eligibility Provision that provides districtwide free breakfasts and lunches.
• Board dinners: Trustees debated whether to discontinue pre-meeting catered dinners to save costs. After discussion about cost, impact on Chartwells staff and the convenience for off-site administrators, the board voted 5–2 to continue board dinners at a newly negotiated, lower per-meal rate (Trustees Parsons and Whistler voted no).
• Water-rights memorandum (Silver Springs): The board approved an MOU designating 34.416 acre-feet annually from an underutilized district well to the Silver Springs Mutual Water Company to reduce a previously identified deficit in dedicated water rights. Staff explained the district remains roughly 75 acre-feet short overall and that the district has undertaken efficiency measures (HVAC upgrades, reduced swamp-cooler use) that will be captured in a forthcoming two-year audit; the MOU passed 6–1 with Trustee Parsons recorded as opposed.
Votes and motions were recorded in the public minutes; the board took no further immediate action on water rights beyond approving the MOU, and staff outlined follow-up options if future audits show the district still exceeds its rights (purchase additional rights, field conversions or further irrigation changes).
