The Commissioners Court approved an $885,000 additional allocation from the county’s GO Mesa (GoMesa) funds to the Galveston Bay Foundation for a shoreline conservation and living‑shoreline project, staff said.
Samantha (staff) explained that GO Mesa funds stem from federal allocations after the Deepwater Horizon incident and are used by Gulf‑facing political subdivisions for coastal restoration. She told commissioners the county has received increasing annual allocations since 2016 and that Chambers County’s typical recent allocations have been in the $750,000–$850,000 range.
Samantha recommended the supplemental allocation after a partner reported higher than expected costs for a Galveston Bay Foundation restoration project; commissioners approved the recommendation by voice vote. Samantha also said there are other county projects that qualify under GoMesa guidelines and that the Texas General Land Office maintains an eligibility list that includes several Chambers County projects.
Commissioners asked staff to provide a short summary of eligible project types and program limits in the coming week to assist in matching projects to available funds. The court recorded the item as approved.
