Yancey County backs EDA grant for Long-Term Recovery Group, says match won't require county funds

The Board unanimously agreed to support an EDA grant application for the Long-Term Recovery Group after staff explained the required match would be met with land equity and other grants rather than cash from the County.
At the Jan. 12 meeting, staff member Chris Sigmon briefed the Board on an Economic Development Administration grant application being prepared by the Long-Term Recovery Group and asked for the Board's support. Sigmon said the required match would be satisfied through land equity and other grant funding and would not require a monetary contribution from Yancey County.
Commissioner Mark Ledford moved to support the application and Commissioner Sandi Norton seconded; the board voted unanimously to provide its support.
County staff did not request county funding and indicated the match would be provided through non-cash means. The Board's support is advisory for the grant application and does not bind the county to provide funds, according to the presentation recorded in the minutes.
