Williams described a 4-foot-high steel fence (three-rail, flushed bottom rail), two 4-foot single-swing gates and one 8-foot double-swing gate, and said the only fencing quote received so far is about $63,000. She said Encore and community fundraising are intended to cover the cost.
Williams explained the fence would require straightening the current curved playground border and pouring a concrete curb to hold the resilient surfacing; she said subsurface work has a separate quote and she will return next month with more detail. She emphasized coordination with the city’s historic architect and trustees to ensure the fence fits the district’s character.
Council members asked whether gates could be locked; Williams said locking was not part of the current plan and would be a council decision. Members also asked about gate hardware and soft-close options to reduce maintenance and noise. No vote was taken; council encouraged the group to continue design work and supply detailed subsurface and maintenance estimates at a future meeting.
