The Board of Education of Warren Township High School District 121 on Tuesday approved a three‑year renewal of the district’s e‑learning plan, authorizing its use in place of scheduled emergency days for short‑term closures. The approved plan covers the 2026‑27 through 2028‑29 school years and was adopted after a public hearing in which no members of the public offered testimony.
Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Services Dr. Geocaris told the board that the Illinois State Board of Education counts e‑learning days as attendance days and that e‑learning plans must be renewed every three years. The district’s renewal emphasizes a shift from a formal bell‑schedule model to a primarily asynchronous approach in which students can contact teachers throughout the day for help and teachers will set up Google Meet sessions as needed.
Dr. Geocaris said the new model is intended to provide more timely student support: rather than waiting until a scheduled class period late in the day, students can reach out earlier and arrange assistance. The plan also adds clarifications on transportation and attendance procedures for students who attend offsite programs such as the tech campus or therapeutic day schools.
The board voted unanimously to approve the renewal following the presentation and a motion from the chair. The renewal also allows the district to make administrative revisions during the three‑year period if necessary. No public testimony was received during the hearing.
