Rush Valley town staff said the town secured a $108,000 grant to update its general plan and review its land-use regulations; staff said the town paid the required local share (described in the meeting as an 8% match) and expects the update to run through December 2027 with public input and meetings.
Separately, the cemetery supervisor (speaker 6) told council volunteers cleared sagebrush, raised sunken headstones and performed other maintenance before Memorial Day, with roughly 20 people participating in a service day. The supervisor reported one burial that required a mock graveside because of an unstable excavation and said some road-safety markers used at gravesites appear to be missing or stolen; staff asked residents to report any found signs.
Council discussed a planned expansion of Saint John Cemetery, with Blaine Russell assisting to set corners for a roughly 0.9-acre expansion. Chair suggested possibly increasing the cemetery budget to accommodate fencing and new pipe and flag purchases; the cemetery supervisor said she would get invoices and work within the budget timeline.
Town staff also noted a community event (bingo and ice cream) scheduled for Friday, May 29, to spend this year’s health department grant funds and invited residents.
