Council approves $4,098 tire purchase for fire tender; fire chief reports surge in calls

The town council approved replacing 10 tires on the water tender after reviewing three bids. The low bid was from Hometown Tire (Tooele) at $4,098.18; the council agreed to use $2,406.32 leftover from a BLM grant with the balance to come from the fire department budget. Chair called for a voice vote and the motion carried.
In the fire-department report that followed, the department’s lead (Agency official - Fire Chief, speaker 5) said the department has been busy: since the last meeting the department had responded to about 21 calls, including nine traffic accidents, nine medical calls and several fires in the county. The chief said the department recently completed training with the BLM, received red-card certifications for firefighters, inspected trucks, and signed an MOU with the state to confirm the rate agreement for fire response payments.
The chief reported that Tooele-area partners have donated multiple water tenders over time; the department presented a plaque thanking North Tooele for their third donated water tender. Staff discussed using grant and department funds to pay off a rescue-truck lease and to cover the tire purchase without needing additional levy increases.
The council approved the bills and the tire purchase by voice vote.
