Anson County approves two airport rehab projects; local matches already budgeted

Airport Manager Rex Edwards told the board the county's 5,500-foot runway is used by small planes, business jets and some military aircraft and that recent helicopter activity has increased operations. He said Michael Baker Engineering is doing design work to rehabilitate taxiways where aging asphalt and drainage problems have caused sink holes.

Edwards described two projects: Taxilane Rehab (project 362237.9.18.1) and Direct Access/Apron Rehab (project 36237.9.20.1). He identified a $3,400 local match for the first project and described the second project's design-phase estimate as $23,000 with a local match of $10,150; he said the local matches are already budgeted to the airport. Edwards also said the state approved work on the taxiway that serves private hangars and that the design phase includes authorization for the county manager to sign the grant and work authorization.

Commissioner Gatewood moved to approve both projects; Vice-Chairman Mims seconded and the motion passed unanimously. With the board's approval, staff may proceed with the design phase and required grant paperwork.
