OSTAC nominates Anthem underpass and County Commons bathrooms as youth mural sites

The Open Space and Trails Advisory Committee on Feb. 26 discussed a proposal from Rise Above Colorado to install painted inspirational murals in Broomfield created with youth participants.
Bob Woods described the program and current candidate locations. Committee members suggested several sites, including the Anthem Community Park underpass near the pump track, the Zuni Street underpass (which currently experiences vandalism), and bathroom structures at Broomfield County Commons that see youth-sports traffic.
Members favored the Anthem underpass and the County Commons bathroom structures and unanimously agreed to add those suggestions to the project’s list of possible locations. The committee also said that if the Zuni underpass is chosen, Legacy High School students should be involved in development to encourage ownership and reduce vandalism.
Teng Keng "TK" Vang said the Anthem underpass had been discussed previously and called the mural a good opportunity to complete the project. There was no formal vote to select a final site; staff will continue site evaluation and community engagement.
