OSTAC reviews Metzger Farmhouse improvement plans; BWOSF fundraising page goes live

Open Space and Trails Advisory Committee members heard details Feb. 26 about projects at Metzger Farm Open Space, including exterior painting, new signage, removal of invasive Russian olive trees, planting of native trees and installation of irrigation.
Bob Woods, Open Space and Trails Manager, summarized completed work and plans and noted that the Broomfield–Westminster Open Space Foundation (BWOSF) Colorado Gives webpage is now active to collect donations for repair, improvements and maintenance at Metzger Farm Open Space. He also presented the 2025 G.R.I.T. Teen Garden report, which OST staff said is irrigated with well water connected to the raised beds.
Committee members asked how students are recruited. Kristan Pritz, OST Director, said many participants are from Broomfield and that the opportunity is advertised in the OST newsletter, on the Broomfield website and via the Volunteer Hub and Westminster outreach.
There was no formal action on the capital improvements; staff said funding will come from the BWOSF and existing Open Space budgets as projects are prioritized. The committee was reminded that BWOSF donations are earmarked for Metzger Farm repairs and ongoing maintenance.
